Privacy Policy

Effective October 1, 2026 · Last updated October 1, 2026

This policy explains what Carnegie Strategy Group collects when you visit our website, how we use it, and the choices you have. We have kept it short and plain on purpose.

The short version

  • We collect very little. There are no accounts, no ads, and we do not sell personal information.
  • We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful.
  • If you email us or join our list, we use what you send to reply or to send updates.
  • A few outside services load with the site, such as fonts and maps, and they can see your IP address.

Who we are

Carnegie Strategy Group (“CSG,” “we,” “us”) is an independent, student-run organization at Carnegie Mellon University. We are not an official entity of the University, and the University does not operate this website. This policy covers carnegiestrategy.org.

One detail worth knowing: our contact address is a University email address, so messages sent to it also pass through Carnegie Mellon’s email systems and are subject to the University’s own policies.

What we collect

Information you give us

When you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. When you join our email list or apply through one of our forms, we receive the information the form asks for. Those forms are hosted by Google Forms, so Google also processes your responses. If you request a research brief, we receive the details in your request.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. It records things such as the pages you view, how you arrived, your approximate location, and the type of device and browser you use, through cookies or similar identifiers. Our hosting provider may also keep standard server logs, which typically include IP addresses and browser details.

Information stored in your browser

Our password-protected research page remembers that you have unlocked it by saving a small flag in your browser’s session storage. It holds no personal information and disappears when you close the tab.

How we use it

  • To reply to your messages and requests.
  • To send updates to people who signed up. You can opt out at any time.
  • To understand which pages are useful and to improve the site.
  • To keep the site secure and working.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We do not run advertising on this site, and we do not use your information to build advertising profiles.

Third-party services

Loading this site involves a handful of outside services. When your browser fetches something from them, they can see your IP address and basic browser details, and each handles that data under its own policy.

  • Google provides Analytics, web fonts, Forms, and image hosting. See Google’s privacy policy.
  • Tailwind CSS, jsDelivr, and unpkg serve open-source code libraries and map data that help pages display.
  • CARTO and OpenStreetMap supply the map tiles on our Data & Analytics page.
  • LinkedIn hosts some profile photos shown on our About page, and our LinkedIn link takes you to its site. See LinkedIn’s privacy policy.

Links to our LinkedIn and Instagram profiles take you to those platforms, which have their own policies. We do not control any of these services, and this list may change as the site does.

Cookies and your choices

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Blocking cookies will not stop the site from working.

When we share information

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with the service providers described above as needed to run the site, when the law requires it, or when it is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of CSG, our members, or others.

How long we keep it

We keep emails and form responses only as long as we need them for the reason you sent them, such as answering a question or keeping you on our list. You can ask us to delete them at any time. Analytics data is kept according to the retention settings of our Google Analytics account.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, but no website or email service is perfectly secure. Please do not send us sensitive personal information, or confidential information about your campaign or business, until we have agreed in writing to work together.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including California and the European Economic Area and United Kingdom, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to object to certain uses, or to withdraw consent. Write to us and we will respond within a reasonable time. We will not treat you differently for making a request.

Children

This site is meant for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
