Policy Research

We publish nonpartisan briefs and data reports that show what the law says and what is still unknown.

Briefs and reports.

Each entry opens as a full document with findings, interactive figures, sources and a ready-made citation. Filter by topic, type, jurisdiction or status.

State regulatory sandboxes.

The evidence behind the briefs.

These views run on the same dataset as the State AI Sandbox Tracker, so a number in a brief always matches the number here. More datasets will appear as briefs are released.

How we keep our work trustworthy

How we grade evidence

  • Primary. An analyst read the statute or the administering agency's own page.
  • Secondary. Built from law-firm, research-center or trade summaries. Reliable, but not yet checked against the statute.
  • Queued. Named by a recent industry tracker. Details are still to be pulled and checked.

Independence

CSG is a nonpartisan, student-run organization. We are not affiliated with any political party or candidate, and briefs describe law and evidence rather than endorse candidates or ballot measures.

Where a brief grew out of a client engagement, the brief says so.

Corrections and updates

When sources conflict, we follow the narrower reading and flag the conflict. When the underlying law changes, the brief is re-checked and the verification date is updated.
